Yearbook.com has posted the entire John Bowne '69 yearbook!

I'm glad now that we never got around to scanning a random copy & posting it on this site. Okay, it doesn't have the note from that cute kid in Mr. Wisner's class, or the joke from your long-lost friend in chemistry... but it's better than the moldy old copy rescued from the basement flood, no?

Email from Sue Rothaiser 6/27/10:

Dear Classmates,

On the one-year anniversary of our terrific 40th reunion of the Class of 1969, we have a DVD available! It consists of a movie and a slideshow. The movie includes schmoozing, assembling for the group photo, awards and contests, dancing and fun. Interspersed with the live video footage we have still photos from the party (present) and from the yearbook (past). The slideshow has some images of John Bowne High School and lots of still photos from the 40th reunion.

Also available are official John Bowne H.S. physical ed t-shirts and the commemorative booklet from the 40th reunion.

DVD $20
T-shirts (large and extra large) $20
Commemorative booklet $30

Postage and handling:

From the official John Bowne Alumni site:

Greetings Alumni,

The school does not financially support the John Bowne Alumni site, so to help cover costs we are having a Spring membership push. We are encouraging all alumni to become upgraded lifetime members. Get your full access lifetime membership right now for a one time fee of $10.00, before we change the fee to $10.00 per year.

Use this link to become an upgraded lifetime member:

Thanks for your support!

Reunion Plans, 2009

The 40th reunion for the Class of 1969 took place on Saturday, June 27, 2009.

Fill out this Reunion Questionnaire in Word & send it to Sue! More on our Reunion Page

If you're coming to the reunion, and you already mailed your check, great! If you haven't replied, please do, because we need an accurate count in order to have enough food at the party. Also, at the reunion, people will wear a button with their photo copied from the yearbook, with their names in large letters, and this takes time. So, please let us hear from you sooner rather than later. Write to sue_bowne69@yahoo.com Thank you!

If you are interested in joining the reunion committee, please contact Sue Rothaizer at sue_bowne69@yahoo.com or 718-261-9655

(or see discussions on our Reunion page!)

We're looking for a volunteer to scan and print facsimile copies of our yearbook, to provide at the reunion. Contact Sue Rothaizer at sue_bowne69@yahoo.com or 718-261-9655 if you'd like to help!

==

We're active in Classmate.com ... I've even found a faculty member (Alice Gross) there.

Where is John Bowne High School?
It's still there, at 63-25 Main Street, Flushing, NY 11367

Memories: We, having avoided the fate of the mythical student who could not escape this block of schools, have survived to remember the year 1969:

and John Bowne during the school year 1968-69:

  • the classes
  • the clubs
  • the students
  • the teachers
  • the teachers' strike
  • our mascot, the Nauga (visit http://www.naugahyde.com/ to learn more about our friend.)

Progress: We haven't stayed at John Bowne all this time. Even those who have returned (yes, there are such!) have gone far and done much that we never could have imagined when we were kids.

This is our web site. Let's share our memories! - both of high school and of the years since. Fill out the JBHS '69 Update Form to have your personal information included on this site, or just send a message to the webmistress at bowne@leedscarroll.com with ideas for what you'd like to add to this site.

Shameless plug! Since I am the Webmistress here, I'm including a link to information about my Fourth Annual Benefit Concert: Sing To Cure MS, to benefit the Accelerated Cure Project for Multiple Sclerosis. You can donate directly to the Cure Project, in my name if you'd like, or in the name of anyone else you know who has MS. You can also purchase a CD of the 3rd annual, October 2005. concert.

View a piece of history: our Alma Mater, in the original mimeographed version, provided by the composer, Alice Gross (fondly remembered as our music teacher, Mrs. Gross).

The myth: He started out in the grade school down the block, continued through the jr. high and high school, and matriculated around the block at Queens College - except that, before he could make it around the corner for his first class, he was hit by a bus and ended up in the cemetery across the street...

The joke: Okay, do you really need to hear the whole thing again? Isn't it enough to say, "What do you want with Beef-and-Broccoli at this hour?!"
