HOW TO GET HERE: In case you don't know: 111 Fairmont Street is in East Arlington, very near the Cambridge border.

By T: Take the Red Line to Alewife Station. Exit at the front of the train, go upstairs to a platform where you'll see some shops, and head for the Passenger Pick-Up Area, which is to the right, up a further flight of stairs (or a ramp if you prefer), and outside (of course). (Caution: do not use the elevator at the left end of the platform! - it will take you to a different part of the station, whence the following directions will be useless!)

Continue to the street, and head right, into a tangle of Rt 2 off-ramps and an overpass. You'll cross a single-lane street (part of Rt 2), and will have the option of walking on the sidewalk of the street (more Rt 2) from which that one fed, or walking along the nice bike path, over the little wooden bridge, and admiring Alewife Brook. (The sidewalk and the bike path run parallel to each other.)

The bike path continues under the nice new Rt 2 overpass - no more muddy path!

Past the overpass, you will see a swamp to your right. You could walk right through it and get to my house faster - but you'd get a bit wet. So instead, turn right as soon as the swamp lets you, onto a paved street (which happens to be Thorndike Street), keeping the swamp to your right. (If you follow the bike path as far as a sign with gold letters welcoming you to Arlington, you've gone too far - you're past the swamp.)

Walking along Thorndike St, you'll very quickly (just before coming to any houses on your right) come to something to your right that isn't a swamp - instead, it's a dirt path, running along a little stand of trees. Take it - still keeping the swamp to your right.

Now you can start looking to your left. The first path to your left will take you to Fairmont St. (Watch for it - it slips among tree roots and under big tree limbs.) That first little grey house to your left is mine. Welcome!

By bus: Take the #77 Arlington Heights bus from Harvard Sq. (not the #77 North Cambridge bus! - it will let you off too soon) to Fairmont St, which is three blocks across the border (that is, Alewife Brook Pkwy/Rt 3) from Cambridge Fairmont is on your left, almost across the street from the CVS. Walk two blocks to the dead end. 111 is the last house on your right. Welcome!

By car: Take Mass Ave to Arlington. Fairmont St is three blocks from Alewife Brook Parkway/Rt 3, almost across the street from the CVS. Drive two blocks to the dead end. 111 is the last house on your right --

OR -- take Rt 2 to the Lake Street exit. Take Lake St into Arlington (not into Belmont!). Drive to Mass Ave, turn right, drive past the next traffic light (at Thorndike St) to Fairmont St , turn right, drive two blocks to the dead end - and there you are! - Welcome!
